The Medicare.gov website has introduced an “enhanced enrollment” process, for which people wanting to set up accounts need to select a third-party, secure identity verification service and then complete several steps, some of them requiring a mobile phone, in order to create an account. People who already have Medicare.gov accounts can bypass this new requirement. This new process, which aims to enhance the safety of users’ private information, takes time and may not be practical during Medicare’s Annual Open Enrollment period (Oct. 15-Dec. 7). An AGE SHINE staff member will describe this new requirement and help attendees strategize about a best practice for accessing the Medicare.gov Plan Finder during Open Enrollment.
