Many but not all communities in Massachusetts offer Senior and Veterans Tax Work-Off programs, which provide opportunities for residents to perform a job for the municipality at minimum wage in order to see a reduction in their property tax bills. A 2018 study revealed that 70% of MA senior centers offer STWO programs. Michael Squindo, Director of the Westfield Council on Aging, will describe a realistic timeline for bringing these programs to your community and offer ideas on how to implement changes to existing programs. He will describe the process of City Council or Select Board approval, application and guidelines development, the creation of part time positions for the program, and publicizing approved programs to attract older adults and veterans. Come find out how to help your community members find meaningful work opportunities and save money on their property tax bills!
