Description
Legal Essentials for Councils on Aging: A Six-Part Series with KP Law
The Massachusetts Councils on Aging is proud to partner with KP Law to present a comprehensive six-part training series designed specifically for Councils on Aging. Over the course of these sessions, KP Law’s expert attorneys will provide practical guidance on the legal and operational issues most critical to senior center leadership and staff.
Topics include finance and appropriations, employment and personnel policies, communication practices, conflict of interest and political activity, contracts and procurement, and compliance with open meeting and public records laws. Each session will feature real-world examples, best practices, and opportunities for questions - equipping attendees with the knowledge they need to confidently navigate the complex legal landscape of municipal aging services.
Session Four: Conflict of Interest & Political Activity
Presenter: Brian Riley, Shareholder and Chair of the General Municipal Practice Group
This session will review the Conflict of Interest Law and its application to municipal staff and volunteers. Participants will also learn how the Conflict of Interest Law applies to municipal employees or officials that participate in a “Friends” group and cautions about allowing political activity within senior centers.
