It Starts with Hello!

The Massachusetts Coalition to Build Community & End Loneliness is inviting organizations across the Commonwealth to participate in the 3rd Annual Good Neighbor Day, taking place September 25-29, 2026.

Last year, Governor Maura Healey proclaimed September 28, 2025, as Massachusetts Good Neighbor Day, and communities responded with 75 events celebrating kindness, connection, and belonging. This year, the Coalition hopes to reach 100 events statewide—and your Council on Aging can help make it happen!

Ideas for Your Good Neighbor Day Event

  • 💙 Host a neighborhood gathering or coffee hour
  • 🚶 Organize a community scavenger hunt
  • 🎲 Create a Good Neighbor Bingo activity
  • 🤝 Hold a "Find Your People" community fair
  • 📞 Reach out to older adults or neighbors who may be experiencing isolation
  • 🌟 Dream up your own creative way to build connections in your community

To help you get started, the Coalition has created an updated Good Neighbor Day 2026 Toolkit, filled with logos, promotional materials, event ideas, and resources to support your planning and outreach.

If you're planning an event, please register it using the Good Neighbor Day 2026 Event Registration Form. Registering helps showcase the incredible work happening across Massachusetts and supports the Coalition's goal of reaching 100 community events.

Let's work together to strengthen communities, reduce loneliness, and remind everyone that sometimes all it takes is saying hello.
