Food Service Coordinator

The South Hadley Council on Aging (COA) seeks a dedicated Food Service Coordinator to make a meaningful impact in the lives of older adults and community members. The role offers the opportunity to oversee and plan for all phases of food service including the daily congregate lunch program, offerings at the Woodlawn Cafe, and coordinating food for special events and activities. The Food Service Coordinator is also responsible for managing food resources, accurate recordkeeping and adherence to all state and federal guidelines. The role serves as a key part of the dedicated team at the Council on Aging and helps foster a welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and older adults and community members we serve.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages all food-related activities including menu preparation, purchase of food, safety, storage, and temperature standards adherence.
- Under the direction of the Council on Aging Director and Human Services Director, works to increase food-service production and efficiency and to provide feedback regarding food-related activities and events.
- Oversees all food procedures, preparation, and safe work environment.
- Leads other food service staff and volunteers in accomplishing assigned work and while also performing hands-on work. Provides training of new employees/volunteers, and reports performance and development issues to supervisors.
- Orders food products efficiently to ensure minimal waste and ensure optimal use of all food-related resources.
- Inventories supplies, shops for food, cleans and maintains kitchen spaces.
- Prepares and maintains records on nutrition activities and food orders.
- Provides general support for COA activities.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
The following requirements may be substituted by an equivalent combination of education, training,
and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:
- High School diploma or equivalent and 3 to 5 years of related experience
- Working knowledge of nutrition and the preparation of meals for large groups of predominantly elderly people. Thorough knowledge of ServSafe regulations. General knowledge of the applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws pertinent to the operation of a public kitchen and preparation of meals.
- Skill in using basic kitchen, computer, and office equipment. Good judgment and tact necessary to maintain effective staff and customer relations. Efficient skill level in the management of a food nutritional program for the elderly. Strong communication skills, problem-solving skills, and customer-service skills.
- Additional preferred training: Basic Life Saving certification (First Aid, AED, Choking Prevention), ServSafe Certification, Allergen Awareness Training.
Status and Compensation
This is a full-time, 40 hour a week, benefitted union position. Days and hours of work are typically 8am to 5:00pm weekdays, with occasional need for off-hour work. Anticipated hiring range is between $20.87 - $24.94 per hour DOQ (Grade 3).
