TITLE:          Deputy Director of Older Adult Services

 

STATUS:       Nonunion, Management Personnel, Full time, FLSA Exempt

 

SALARY:      FY25 salary range $95,420 - $110,739 annually, plus excellent benefits

 

General Purpose: *

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and management for the OAS department by providing administrative, supervisory, and professional work in planning, implementing, directing, managing and overseeing the City’s staffing, programming and services for Newton’s older population. Acts as the Director in their absence and performs all other related work as required and directed. Provides direct oversight of the case management function of the department. A visible leader in the community, the position requires strong professionalism, an exemplary work ethic, a solution-oriented attitude, and a willingness to be flexible and collaborative.


Essential Duties:

Assists the Director of OAS with day-to-day operations and functions of the Cooper Center for Active Living to achieve the Center’s goals and mission. Deputy Director has a strong focus on the programs and services provided through the center as well as the social services provided through the department. Assumes the role of the Director of OAS in their absence including but not limited to payroll, processing invoices, opening and closing the building as scheduled, and providing support for the Council on Aging and the Senior Citizens Fund of Newton. Oversees the operations and use of the facility by OAS department, other departments, outside organizations and individuals. Provides direct oversight of the case management function of the department. Assists in the development of OAS policy and procedures related to case management based on best practice, applicable laws, etc. Provides guidance and interpretation as needed. Provides staff training and development on OAS case management policies and procedures. Performs all other related work as required and directed.


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in human services, public administration, social work, gerontology or a related field from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of three to five years of relevant experiences with increasing responsibility which includes at least one year of supervision of personnel or equivalent combination of education and experiences. Previous experience working with older adults. Master’s degree in social work, social work licensure or master’s degree in public administration preferred. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and experience using databases. Knowledge of various database/software systems including myseniorcenter, myrec, and/or MUNIS desirable. A strong commitment to public service required.
