Grade 6 / Non-Union Position with Benefits

35 Hours per Week

FY27 Rate Scale: $23.16 to $23.75 per Hour


The employee in this position is responsible for developing, implementing, promoting, and coordinating diversified and

innovative programs, activities, trips, and special events for people using the Norfolk Center for Active Living. The

employee in this position will also recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to ensure the quality of services.


Responsibilities

 Editor of monthly newsletter which involves preparing articles, calendar of events, and other items of interest.

Coordinates with the printer to ensure timely delivery. Maintains a list of both mail and email addresses and is

responsible for increasing the number of recipients each year.

 Researches and schedules event speakers, entertainers, and trips. Develops, plans, coordinates, and evaluates all

programs and activities.

 Manages the setup and cleanup of programs at the Center.

 Works closely with Norfolk bus drivers, tour companies, tour locations, and other Center staff from booking to

completion of trips.

 Creates flyers, signup sheets, and brochures. Sends press releases to local newspapers. Posts flyers and

copies of newsletters in community locations.

 Recruits, screens, and conducts placement of volunteers; orients new volunteers to Council on Aging programs

and policies.

 Maintains and updates records in MySeniorCenter software and plans volunteer appreciation events.

 Assists the director with the administration of the Senior Property Tax Work-Off Program by managing the

application and placement process and other tasks as needed.

 Provides front desk coverage when the scheduled staff member or volunteer is not present.


Qualifications

An Associate degree in gerontology, human services, education, or a relevant field; three years of experience working

with the public (experience with older adults in a human service setting preferred); or an equivalent combination of

education and experience. The successful candidate must have the ability to interact positively and respectfully with older

and disabled adult residents, as well as other employees.


Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Experience with Canva or other publishing software is highly desirable,

and experience with MySeniorCenter software is preferred. Successful applicants must pass a criminal background

check.
