I. Job Title:
Director of Senior Services (Full-Time, Union)
II. Reports to:
Town Manager
III. Job Summary:
The Billerica Council on Aging (BCOA) is a leader in providing comprehensive programs that
support the well-being of approximately 2,000 active members who aim to age positively within
the community. We are transitioning from a recreational model to a holistic approach focused on
overall wellness. We seek a visionary leader to enhance the quality of life for older adults and
their caregivers through effective human resources management, collaboration with various
departments and organizations, and strategic program development.
IV. Responsibilities:
Supervision: Oversee and inspire the heads of the Outreach and Transportation, Wellness,
Events and Activities, Volunteer Services, and Administration departments. Empower and
develop the senior team to make informed decisions and take initiative.
Board Relations: Collaborate with the Board and Friends Board to advance organizational
goals.
Partnering and collaborating: Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships that support the
COA’s mission. Develop new partnerships with businesses and civic organizations to enhance
resources and capacity for meeting the needs of older adults. Collaborate with departments such
as Recreation, Library, Board of Health, and Veteran Services to address community needs
collectively.
Image and Branding: Promote a modern perspective on aging and adapt to the evolving needs
of a diverse aging population. Enhance the organization’s reputation as a key resource on age-
related topics. Actively engage with Age Span, MCOA, and other organizations to combat
ageism.
Health Extenders: Build strong connections with healthcare organizations like Lahey Health to
support programs such as the Lahey Fresh Produce Market and wellness education. Evolve
programs to address:
- The value of social connection
- The growing need for mental health care
- The importance of intergenerational programming
- The needs of different senior age groupsFood insecurity among seniors
- Support for family caregivers
V. Qualifications:
Skills and Competencies: Master’s degree in business, Social Work, Public Health, Human
Services, or related field with at least 5 years of experience leading an aging services
organization in a community of 40,000+ people.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strategic thinker with a strong ethical foundation and the ability to connect with people.
Experience considering external stakeholder perspectives and fostering an agile,
responsive team culture.
VI. Salary and Benefits:
• Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
• Annual Salary: $108,606.80 - $128,325.35
• Competitive benefits package including exceptional health and dental coverage.
• Sick Leave: 15 days per fiscal year
• Personal Days: 3 per year
• Vacation: 2 weeks for employees with 5 years or less of service (1st week accrued after 6
months)
• 13 holidays per year
